CENTER FOR REFLUX AND FOREGUT DISEASE AT TEXAS VISTA MEDICAL CENTER OFFERING RELIEF TO PATIENTS ON THE SOUTHSIDE
SAN ANTOINO, TEXAS - On a daily basis, over 15 million Americans suffer from a painful, burning sensation in the center of the chest most commonly known as heartburn or acid reflux. Now patients on the Southside of San Antonio can find relief from this chronic condition and its side effects at the new Center for Reflux and Foregut Disease.
Dr. Ashwini Kumar and the team at Texas Vista Medical Center have new technology to diagnose and treat heartburn, reflux disease and dysphasia, difficulty in swallowing. Manometry is a minimally invasive diagnostic tool used to assess pressure and motor function of the esophagus (food pipe). It is used to evaluate the causes of gastric reflux, heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and functional chest pain.
“Serious symptoms of acid reflux, also referred to as heartburn or GERD, can be debilitating and can affect your ability to enjoy life,” said Ashwini Kumar, MD, FACS, FASMBS, Board Certified Surgeon. “With Manometry we can pinpoint the exact cause of acid reflux to determine the most appropriate treatment for a more permanent solution.”
When left untreated, acid reflux can lead to more serious health complications including ulcers, inflammation of the esophagus, and cancer. Temporary fixes such as over the counter medications can deteriorate the lining of the stomach, lead to vitamin deficiencies and cause side effects such as thinning of the bone and kidney disease.
“We are committed to offering the health care services our community needs, and deserves, right here in our neighborhood,” said Jon Turton, FACHE, President of Texas Vista Medical Center. “With board certified physicians, new technology and skilled team members dedicated to serving our community, we are creating healthy horizons for those on the Southside of San Antonio.”
With the use of Manometry, the expert team at the Center for Reflux and Foregut Disease can assess the best treatment option for acid reflux/GERD and treat this condition either medically or surgically.
